Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry resigned in his independence with Unilever

Jerry Greenfield, co -co -founder of Ben & Jerry, from the ice cream maker after nearly 50 years in a continuous row with the parent company Unilever.

In an open letter shared on Wednesday by the co -founder of the brand bearing the name “Green Cohen”, Greenfield called the “painful” resolution, but said that Unilever had been afflicted by the company’s ability to speak on global issues, including the conflict in Gaza.

Greenfield wrote in a post on X.

The departure comes despite the integration agreement with the Unilever-which bought Ben & Jerry’s for $ 326 million in 2000-which was expected to protect the independence of the Fairmont company.

Ben & Jerry has always been vocal in social activity issues. However, the matter has arrived with its owner Utyver at least 2021, when the ice cream maker said it would stop selling its products in the West Bank occupied by the Israeli in response to the conflict in Gaza.

“It is disappointing for deep hopes to reach the conclusion that this independence, which is the basis for our sale to Unilever, has disappeared,” Greenfield wrote.

UNILIVER carries the yarn operation from ice cream to a new entity known as Magnum Ice Cream Company, which is scheduled to be included in November.

A spokesman for Unilever said that the company does not agree to the Greenfield perspective, and that it sought to “involve the founders participating in a constructive conversation on how to enhance the strong Ben & Jerry position.”

“We are still committed to the unique mission of Ben & Jerry, consisting of three parts-the product, the economic and social-and we remain focusing on moving forward in the heritage of peace, love and ice cream for this famous and beloved brand.
