On Monday, US President Donald Trump, who joined the Republican Governor in Tennessee Bell Lee, established a crime crime business team in Memphis, Tennessee.
The democratic city is the second that faces the Trump administration campaign against the crime, after Washington, DC.
Trump pledged to “reform” the city after she had planned a similar operation in Chicago, due to the opposition of local and state officials.
The mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, also expressed his opposition to the plan, on the pretext that the crime has already occurred without federal intervention.
On Monday, the president said that Memphis was “exceeded” with cancer, theft and the shooting, in addition to other crimes.
“We will not allow this type of brutality to destroy our society anymore,” Trump said in the signing of a note in the Oval Office.
He said: “We will all take care of them step by step, just as we did in the capital. We have almost no crime in the capital at the present time, and we will maintain this in this way,” noting that he still has his eyes in Chicago and St. Lewis, Missouri.
Trump said that the work squad in Memphis will be a “true copy of efforts” in Washington, DC, adding that he will activate federal agencies including the National Guard, Federal Investigation Office, enforcement of immigration, customs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives (ATF) and the Ministry of Justice.
He praised me his efforts to “decrease the ongoing crime” in the state.
In an interview with CNN on Saturday, Young said he was “unhappy” regarding federal plans to deploy the National Guard in Memphis – he said the plan was confirmed by Trump on Fox News the day before.
“My goal is to make sure that if they are already coming, we have an opportunity to pay some decisions on how to participate in our society,” he said.
“It is something that we have no choice,” he added. “We will do our best to make sure it has a limited impact on our societies.”
Republican lawmakers in the state, including the ruler, have expressed their support.
The ruler said last week that he was already working on a plan with the White House that would bring the “full range of both federal and state resources” in Memphis.
FBI statistics from 2024 show that Memphis has 25501 violent crimes per 100,000 people, and it is one of the highest rates of any American city.
BBC verification The FBI statistics analysis of many American cities found that in 2024, Memphis topped the categories of killings with 41 murders per 100,000 people.
This was followed by Temoor with 35 murders per 100,000 people. Chicago ranked ten from 37 American cities and has a population of more than 500,000 people.
The advertisement comes weeks of speculation about the place where federal resources may be deployed to fight crime.
In addition to Chicago, President New Orleans – who was welcomed by the Louisiana Governor Jeff Landre – and Paltimore.
On August 11, Trump took over the Washington Police Department, and also activated the National Guard units and began to increase federal law enforcement officers.
More than 2000 arrests have been conducted, and hundreds of illegal firearms have been seized since then, which administration officials have repeatedly indicated as signs working in the city.
However, opinion polls show that the deployment of the National Guard forces in the city is unimaginable among many local population, and legal experts have questioned the legitimacy of the use of forces in American cities.
Earlier in September, a California federal judge spent Trump’s deployment of forces to suppress the unrest in Los Angeles this summer was illegal, although the ruling did not apply to other cities.
