Andrew Robertson has explained that he would not give up his place as the first left -back Liverpool, even after admitting that there was an opportunity that he could join Atletico Madrid in the summer.
The 31 -year -old, who has been in Anfield since 2017, has lost the start of this season against Milos Kerkher, the 20 -year -old, a signing of 40 million pounds, as a long -term option for the club on the left side of the defense.
Although Robertson was linked to the move to Atletico – who coincides with the first Champions League opponents in Liverpool on Wednesday – he chose to stay in the last year of his contract, knowing that his chances may now come from the bench.
This was the case in Burnley on Saturday, when Robertson entered the game in the 38th minute to replace Kirkrak, which was already booked.
Its introduction helped stabilize the Arne Slot team, holding 1-0 victory to maintain their ideal beginnings for the Premier League season.
In thinking about speculation, Scotland captain said: “Maybe at some point. I want to play games and to be the left back and I must continue to pay to try to produce the levels that I know.
“The international rest was good for me as I managed to get 90 minutes, get this fitness match and really good results for Scotland and took a lot of confidence in that.
“It is only small Kerkez and I think we forget that. You are trying to help them as much as possible but you want to click on it and want to play games.
“The left back of Liverpool will be in the future and will return to him this season and help him improve.
“He only needs to continue working hard and not allowing him today to affect him, which he will not do because he is a confident boy, and I will help him as much as I can.”
Kerkez reflects Robertson’s experience when he first arrived in Liverpool from Hull City in 2017. At that time, he had to wait until December to be a regular start during the era of Juergen Klopp.
Robertson admitted the similarities: “It is a huge leap. I came from Hull, it came from Bournemouth and may be completely similar.
“There are a lot of eyes on you in the Liverpool shirt more than these two clubs. It has moved well.
“There is a lot of information and a lot of different ways to play and only needs to continue to continue and maintain his confidence.
“I have no doubt in the future, it will be the wonderful left back of Liverpool and that’s the main thing.”
