Two men in Zambia were sentenced to their attempt to calm the president and kill them

A court in Zambia sentenced two men to two years in prison for trying to use magic to kill President Hakinde Hishilma.

Zambian Leonard Ferry and Mozambakan Justin Mapolis Canny was condemned under the Law of Magic after his arrest in December with magic in their possession, including live chameleons.

Judge Fine Mayambu said in his ruling: “In my view, the convicts were not only the enemy of the head of state, but they were also enemies for all Zambians,” Judge Fine said in his rule.

The case was closely followed in Zambia, as this was the first time that anyone has been tried for trying to use magic against the president.

The prosecution claimed that Phiri and Candunde were appointed by the former fugitive deputy to Hichilema.

Although they insisted that they were well traditional therapists, the court condemned them on two charges under the Magic Law.

Hichilema said before he does not believe in magic. He did not comment on the case.

He said that people “rarely” had ruled them to practice magic, but he helped protect elderly women who faced mob justice in the villages after accusing them of diversifying someone and causing their death.

Witchcraft also appeared prominently in talks about the prolonged conflict between the government and the family of the late President Edgar Longo due to his funeral.

Some people believe that the government’s insistence that it should be buried in Zambia, unlike his family’s desires, may be “for mysterious reasons.”

The government denied this accusation.

Lungu died in South Africa in June, and his body is still in a morgue there due to the lack of agreement on his burial.
