Maybe we are no longer at peak Tiny house madnessbut the idea of building a light, resource-efficient home that can be placed almost anywhere is still attractive. Today at CESI toured a 2025 model of the microhaus Pro from California-based Haus.me. It was shiny, luxuriously appointed, and, frankly, not as expensive as I thought it would be.
The interior of the 120-square-foot unit is made entirely of wood, glass, and soft neutrals. It’s as if you took a shipping container and replaced the hard lines and corrugated steel with rounded corners and floor-to-ceiling windows. Surfaces sparkle and every bit of space is maximized with small, IKEA-like space efficiency, like the queen-sized Murphy bed that folds out to reveal a table and two bench chairs. The kitchen has a small refrigerator and a microwave, a full set of Villeroy & Boch dishes are included in the price, and there is a full-size shower in the bathroom.
The units can really go almost anywhere without the need for site preparation – if the ground is flat, they will work. The Microhaus Pro is also climate agnostic, with the ability to reside in snowy forests, hot deserts, and temperate beaches (although the hot and cold climate packages are about $10.00 extra each). It is also California Seismic Fire Code and CAT-5 tornado compliant.
Installation usually takes less than an hour and doesn’t require any special connections — all it takes is a garden hose and an extension cord. Thanks to its size, it falls under the minimum size that requires a permit. The included 3.6 kWh battery can power everything in the house for four days and there is an optional option Atmospheric water generation The battery life is four days. The drinking water is filtered with reverse osmosis and the waste disposal system “dissolves” everything into a liquid, which can be run through an extendable tube that you can connect to your septic tank or tank.
The Pro model also features advanced perks like voice control via a wall-mounted Apple HomePod. During my tour, Max Gerbaut, CEO of Haus.me, asked Siri to lower the curtains, and she complied. You also get the full package, dishes, towels, etc. – I even saw a drawer full of M&Ms in the kitchen and made sure you got those too.
The Pro model is a more luxurious and powerful version intended for Airbnb and rental use and is priced at $89.99. If you don’t need the smart home features, backup battery, and built-in dishes, you can get the microhaus Lite for $59,990. There’s also a $35,000 version that only includes the HVAC system, lights, wiring, bathroom fixtures, and plumbing.
The one thing that none of the microhaus models include is solar power generation. To do this, you will need to switch to 400 and 800 square foot units. These devices have the same convenience of being placed anywhere but are completely self-contained and are priced at $199,000 and $299,000 respectively. Note that none of the prices include delivery.
That’s right – none of these prices are small numbers. But I helped build tents, small houses and sheds. I’ve lived in more than one hand-built home and looked at many other modular, prefabricated options. Relatively speaking, these prices are not very high, especially when you consider that there is almost no site preparation, no installation needed and no contractor needed.
The microhaus Pro is available to order now from Haus.me.
