The worst Bali floods during a decade of 14

At least 14 people were killed in Bali in Indonesia, while officials say it is the worst flood of the island in a decade.

Heavy rains led to severe floods across most of the island, causing rivers to rivers. The rain stops now and the water levels are carved, but rescuers are still looking for survivors. Two people are missing in Denpasar, where eight deaths occurred.

Since Tuesday, hundreds of residents have been evacuated as their homes were immersed. The main roads are closed by landslides and at least two damaged bridges.

“People were shocked here. The floods were very poor,” Tasha, a resident of Balai, told BBC News Indonesia. “I thought that Bali had enough drainage.”

The provincial government has announced a week of emergency.

President Praboo Sobanto expressed his deep condolences to the floods in a statement on Wednesday. The Minister of Cabinet said that the President had instructed all agencies related to “quickly” behavior and stressed the need for “targeted assistance.”

Neston Sidawaria, head of the Bali search and rescue agency, told the local news agency betweenThe rescue teams were facing “difficulty in reaching the flooding areas.”

“The floods are everywhere, even trucks can barely pass,” he said.

The authorities said that two people died from electricity and were invaded by the current, in the southwest of Bali, Jamerna Regency.

Eight other dead victims were found in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, and three were found in Giannar. In Badong County one person died.

At least 85 people were evacuated to temporary shelters in the Jamebana area in the southwest of Bali, while in Denbasar, two buildings collapsed.

Bali is not the only island in Indonesia, which was affected by sudden floods and heavy rains.

At least three people died, and two and four were missing in the neighboring eastern Nusa Tingara Province, Disaster Agency said on Tuesday.

More than 385 mm of rain was recorded in 24 hours at the climate station in Bali.

The famous tourist areas were also badly affected, as hotels and companies are struggling to overcome this turmoil. Officials in some areas say garbage sewage, which makes floods worse. The island has long fought with waste management problems and poor infrastructure.

Bali is still under a very weather warning, although the rain is expected to be less intense on the island than Thursday.

Officials say the landslides and scandalous floods are not common throughout the Indonesian archipelago, especially during the rainy season and climate change made the situation worse.
