There are times that you may want to prevent videos and GIF videos from playing automatically in your social media extracts. This may be because you are trying to maintain cellular data, reduce addiction to these applications, or maintain better control in your viewing experience, as is when the video is viral you do not want to see it. Whatever the reason, here are the steps to turn off the videos and GIFs on the famous social media platforms.

Facebook

To turn off the automatic operation on Facebook, go to your profile image icon, which appears in the upper right corner of the desktop version or in the lower navigation bar for the mobile phone application. Next, scroll down to “Settings and Privacy”, then select “Preferences”, where you will find a “media” menu option. Within that list, there is an option to switch video playing in your summary and stories. Select “Never” option.

Rapid track: Settings> Preferences> Media> Video Play> Never.

Instagram

On Instagram, click your profile image in the right below corner. Once you are on your profile page, click the menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen (it’s the symbol with three horizontal lines). Then, scroll to “settings and activity”, then move to “application and media”, where you will find “media quality”. From there, you can switch the option “Use less cellular data”.

This is not guaranteed like the preparation of “automatic play content”, but it will slow down if you are out of Wi-Fi. Instagram will also also make automatic playing sounds unless you click a post with the sound first.

Rapid track: Profile> Settings and Activity> App and Media> Media Quality> Less Cell Data Use.

X (twitter)

On X, go to the image of your profile at the upper left to access the sidebar (on the desktop, the sidebar is already visible). Next, select “Settings and Privacy” – this will be a smaller line at the bottom of the list on the application, and on the mobile phone, you must click on the three points at the end of the menu to show more options, which include “settings and privacy”. Next, scroll down to “access, offer and languages”, which will open another menu with the “use of data” option, where you can turn off “Video Autoplay”.
