Australian Comprehensive Mitch Marsh Long awaited return to Big bash league (BBL) did not go as planned. The 33-year-old was sent off for a golden duck in his first match for the Perth Scorchers in three years.
The excitement was palpable at Optus Stadium, where more than 30,000 fans turned out to see their hometown star back in action. Marsh, who last played for the Scorchers in the BBL11 final, was expected to bolster the batting line-up. But his comeback took a disappointing turn when he was trapped lbw by Melbourne Renegades’ Will Sutherland with his first delivery.
A nightmare start for Marsh
Entering with high expectations, Marsh received a warm reception from the Perth crowd. But the excitement quickly faded. Sutherland, who was in fiery form, delivered a full-length ball which returned to Marsh, catching him in front. Without much hesitation, Marsh departed, acknowledging his fate with a quick glance of review.
The dismissal left the stadium stunned and set the tone for a challenging evening for the Scorchers.

Marsh contemplates his return
Speaking to Fox Cricket ahead of the match, Marsh expressed his delight at returning to the Scorchers after a long international spell.
“It’s been a long time coming. Obviously I love playing for the Scorchers, and it was really nice to come home after a big series. I love playing here,” he said.
Despite the early setback, Marsh maintained his sense of humour, introducing himself in the broadcast as a “former Test star”.
The burning struggle after the onset of terror
Marsh’s sacking was not the only blow for Perth. Rising star Cooper Connolly, who leads the competition in runs, followed with a duck. The second ball was bowled by Tom Rogers, sending the crowd into a tailspin.
Captain Ashton Turner also fell cheaply for just eight runs, leaving the Scorchers reeling at 47-4 after seven overs.
Marsh’s return to domestic cricket came just a week after he was dropped from the Australian Test squad. His performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been disappointing, with scores of 9, 5, 4, 2 and 0 in his last five outings. He struggled with both bat and ball, which led to him being replaced by Beau Webster for the final Test.
