Amid the increasing tensions on the American customs tariffs on Indian goods, DeBak Shinoy, CEO of Capitalmind, criticized Donald Trump’s claim that trade with India was a “unilateral disaster”, describing the argument of both the former president both wrong and ventilation.
“The United States has a commercial surplus with India in services,” Senoy posted X, and retracted Trump’s claim that the commercial relationship of the United States and India was “completely unilateral disaster.” He added: “We buy a lot of China, just as America has done.”
Trump’s comments came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and days after the United States imposed a 50 % tariff on Indian goods. “They sell us huge quantities of goods … but we sell them very little,” Trump said, describing the relationship as a “completely unilateral disaster.”
Shinoy challenged this narration, noting that India has transformed oil imports to the United States as soon as Washington raised export restrictions. “We have already turned a lot of oil purchases to the United States after removing some stupid rules,” he wrote.
India’s hesitation in buying American military services also explained: “We do not buy US defense products much because they support Pakistan.”
Shinoy Trump was accused of trying to cancel a relationship that has been considered a strategic partnership. “Trump is alienated India,” he said. “We really want to reach a situation where we have no attention.”
The high tariff has caused criticism even in Washington. Democrats on the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee criticized “harm to the Americans and sabotaging the relationship between the United States of India.”
Xinoy also reported the long -term commercial friction that arose in the United States, including fabric tariffs and non -fire barriers such as the provisions of the Food and Drug Administration on Indian Pharmaceutical Companies. “The United States has had a lot of customs tariffs … throughout the ages,” he said.
