India police arrested a man who recently claimed that he was coercive for the burial of hundreds of the bodies of women who were raped before they were killed.
His amazing allegations have threw the small religious town of Darmastala in the southern state of Karnataka in the turmoil.
The habitat of the centuries -old temple to Mangunatha Swame – embodied in the Hindu Holy Trinity – the city attracts thousands of pilgrims daily and is central to the tissue of the lives of the local population.
The state’s political ranks led the government to prepare a special investigation team (SIT) to verify the man’s allegations.
On Saturday morning, the SIT official, who did not want to be named The BBC, told Saturday morning that the man was “arrested on charges of perjury.”
In early July, the middle -aged man filed a police complaint and appeared in front of a judge to register his statement. His identity has been blocked, and so far, he appeared in the audience wearing full black clothes, including the hood and the face mask.
In the BBC’s police complaint, the man said he was working as a cleaner in the temple from 1995 to 2014 – and claimed that he had to bury the bodies of hundreds of girls and young women who were brutally raped and killed.
He recounted five alleged incidents where he provided details, and said there were many other events. Some of the victims, the man’s claim, were from the palace.
He said he was hiding since 2014, returned and spoke to silence his annoying conscience.
The cleanser did not mention anyone, but he blamed the “Temple Administration and its employees” – allegations The temple head rejected “a liar and baseless”.
When he was transferred to the judge, the man continued to produce a human skull from his bag as evidence. He said he belonged to the body of her burial and that he recently recovered from the place.
“The skull remains and the skeleton that he produced from anywhere were not brought in by which he claimed to be buried the bodies,” the SIT official said.
The arrest of Saturday is a major turn in the epic that fired a gunshot inside and outside the state.
The allegations received extensive media coverage. After raising fears by the state’s women’s committee, the government launched a major criminal investigation and established sitting.
Over the past few weeks, the team has made excavations into sites in Dharmasthala and around them to check the man’s claims. It was initially identified 13 locations-some in hard-to-reach areas covered with dense foliage and are said to have toxic snakes.
Sett in SIT confirmed to the BBC that human remains, including a skull and about 100 bone fragments, were found in two stains and were sent to the forensic test. It is not clear to him.
The allegations also put the spotlight on the influential Heggade family – the genetic officials of the temple.
In a statement to the British Broadcasting Authority (BBC), the chief manager, Verendra Heggade, a deputy in the Indian Parliamentary Parliament, who received the second highest civilian award in the country in Badma Vibushan in 2015, welcomed the investigation.
He wrote that the temple “really appreciates the government to appoint sitting to investigate the alleged abnormal deaths that it claimed had occurred in and around Darmstala.”
“We are already providing full support for the investigation. We have a complete belief on our judicial agency, the investigation agency and the Indian constitution,” he added.
in interview With the presence of the Indian PTI at a later time, the allegations of the former cleaner described “impossible” and said “once and for all you should go out.”
These allegations also led to a huge political ranks – the case was discussed in the session that the association linked to the state, as the members of the Bharatiya Jatata opposition party described it as a “distortion campaign” against a Hindu religious site containing millions of worshipers.
Interior Minister G Parameshwa from the ruling Congress Party in the state said that the government does not intend to either protect anyone or distinguish anyone.
“Shouldn’t the truth come out?” He asked. “If nothing is found, Darmastala’s position will increase. If something appears, justice will be delivered. “
