An official notice confirmed that the 56th meeting of the Commodity and Services Tax Council (GST) will be held on September 3 and 4, 2025, in the national capital. The sessions are scheduled to start at 11 am in both days. Before the council’s deliberations, a meeting of the officers will be held on September 2, 2025, also in New Delhi.
While the detailed agenda and place has not yet been connected, government sources indicated that the center is keen to ensure the implementation of commodity and services tax discounts before the emergence of the Dusshera-Diwali Festival season, indicating a possible relief for consumers and companies before the ceremonial request cycle.
Diwali will be observed on October 21 this year.
The GOM Group (GOM) decided to rationalize prices at its meeting on August 21 to move forward in the center’s proposal to obtain a bipolar structure under the commodity and services tax (GST) to the Commodity and Services Tax Council, which paves the stage for many goods to become cheaper.
While he described it as a common step friendly to men, state ministers have noticed possible revenue losses and the need for more compensation to countries.
GOM accepted the center’s suggestion with two commodity and services tax rates by 5 % and 18 %, with a 12 % and 28 % panels. A final call will be made by the Commodity and Services Tax Council.
Getting rid of compensation, the center also suggested a new average of 40 % with a specific sin of luxury luxury goods in it. However, several states raised the issue of loss of revenue and highlighted the need for continuous compensation for the states.
They also sought an appreciation from the Federation’s Ministry of Finance to lose the expected revenues from the proposal to rationalize prices.
The Commodity and Services Tax Council, which is headed by the Minister of Union Finance and includes representatives from all states and union regions, is the decision -making authority at the summit for indirect tax issues in India.
