In India, the issue of financial independence of youth often contradicts the authority of parents. Modern participation was published on Subredit R/Mumbai viral, which highlighted this conflict.

A 27 -year -old woman shared how, despite working for six years in a financial job and earning about $ 40,000 a month, her parents allowed her to keep only $ 3,000 for personal expenses. She said that the rest is transferred to another account under their insistence.

She wrote: “Now comes the biggest issue that allows me my parents to keep only 3 thousand per month from my salary to spend everything I want, and I insisted on transferring the rest to another account. I tried to retreat several times, and even delay the transport, but they always remember and insist.

According to her, this arrangement has been arranged since her first job in 2018. While her parents invest money in fixed deposits and other plans, she claims that she does not control her. “Even when I ask them to allow me to do it myself or learn, I do not get an opinion,” she added.

The restricted allowance has affected her daily life, preventing her from enjoying simple pleasures such as shopping, eating outside or eating leave. “The last time I bought myself, it was new clothes before Covid … I cannot even go out for vacation to places like Goa with my friend, because I do not think it is fair to take all these expenses alone,” I participated.

One of the users advised her to open a new bank account and redirect his salary there: “You have been exposed financially. If you cannot reach the money, you are facing the responsibility of your financial data.”

Another commentator urged her to establish boundaries: “You are 27, no longer a child.

The woman also admitted that the lack of financial autonomy affected her mental health, which contributed to depression and anxiety. However, the exit in Mumbai still represents a financial challenge, leaving the desire for independence and the pressure of the family’s expectations.
