Blocking money games: All forms of gambling are banned online, betting or real money games, as well as promotion and financial transactions. Illegal platforms may be banned.

Online Games: A new central body will classify games, identify money games, deal with complaints, and the industry issuance instructions.

The objectives of the law

The government says that the draft law aims to encourage positive games through electronic sports, protect citizens from financial and psychological harm caused by gambling over the Internet, and protect national security from the risks of money laundering, and at the same time, supports innovation in the ecosystem of games in India.

The Minister of Information Technology of the Ashwini Fishnaw Federation NDTV said that the legislation “will place India as a responsible game manufacturing center” while curbing the spread of gambling over the Internet, which he said, “Thousands of families have destroyed.” He added that the overwhelming support for the draft law stems from the devastating consequences associated with money games.

The draft law proposes strict penalties for violations. It is possible to offer, operate or facilitate money games online – whether based on skill, opportunity or both – a fine of up to 1 rupees and a prison of up to three years.

Not only is gaming companies that fall under the government’s radar. The legislation also extends its access to advertisers, sponsors and brokers in payment. According to the draft law, the promotion or operation of ads for financial games can attract penalties of up to a period of up to two years or fines of up to 50 rupees of Cham.

The draft law prohibits all forms of betting and gambling over the Internet – including fictional sports, paper games such as poker and Rummy, and online lottery. The decision is expected to reach a 3.8 billion dollar games industry, which attracted global investors and feeds the rise of fictional sport platforms such as DREAM11, Games24x7 and the Premier League for the mobile phone.
