Hurricane Irene is strengthened to a Hurricane of Series 4 because it threatens to bring life -threatening currents to the eastern coast of the United States.

The rains resulting from the storm already began to hit the southeastern Bahamas, Turkish and Kaikos islands, where the tropical storm warning is valid.

While Irene is not expected to fall into the islands, it is expected that the rain will reach six inches (15.2 cm) to the Turks, Kikos and the East Bahamas Islands.

NHC expectations are that Irene’s heart to the east of the southeast of the Bahamas today and the move between Bermuda and the eastern coast of the United States by mid -week.
