The legendary cricket player Brian Lara has urged the Cricket Cracks (CWI) to involve Chris Gayel, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard in the efforts made to revive the team. Lara also stated that their recent experience and strong contact with the current players make them perfect guides to address the team’s ongoing talent.
Western cricket is in a severe crisis after its last heavy defeats. The team lost three tests and five T20is against Australia, including the low record of 27 in a day test. Then they suffered the loss of the T20i series to Pakistan, but they recovered by winning 2-1 in the Odi series, under the leadership of the SHI Hope captain.
Brian Lara urges CWI to appoint Chris Gayel, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard
In the Instagram post, Brian Lara said that the West Indies Cricket should include Chris Gayel, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard in directing the current team. Lara stated that they can direct, motivate and tackle the challenges facing modern Western cricket players.

“In particular, I think former players such as Chris Gayel, Dwayne Bravo and Kiron Pollard have a unique and timely perspective that can prove that it is invaluable. These men not only played at the highest level, but they did so in an era that reflects the psychology of modern athletes, their aspirations and motives,” Lara wrote on Instagram.
He added: “Their proximity to today’s players – in terms of alignment generations and joint clothing rooms – gives them a real understanding of what is behaved, spent, or disturbing the modern Western cricket player.”
In an exceptionally good position to present this clarity – Brian Lara
Brian Lara said that Chris Gayel, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo can improve communication and help revitalize cricket in the Caribbean. He added that the council must address the structural and psychological challenges that currently affect the regional game.
“Chris, Dwayne and KP, through their own trips through the global concession circles and in the service to West Indies Cricket, are in a very good position to provide this clarity,” Lara wrote.
“If we want to build a permanent solution – a guard that re -connects the performance with a goal – we must make mistakes all those who have a relevant vision. This is a moment of collective wisdom, not the isolated intervention. The deeper the seat of experience that we rely on, the more equipped, we will address the structural and psychological challenges that continue to play in the regional game.
Captain World Cup Captain Darren Sami Training the West Islands
Chris Gayel and Dwayne Bravo, who, for example, the last West Indies in the 2021 T20 World Cup, participated in the dressing room with Brian Lara. Kiron Pollard joined the team in 2008, after Lara retired, and played his latest men’s match in Maroun in 2022.
The team failed to qualify for both the ODI 2023 World Cup in India and the 2025 Champions Cup in Pakistan and Dubai.
It should be noted that Captain Darren Sami, who won the T20 World Cup, is the main coach, but the results did not meet expectations under his term.
Earlier this year, Nicholas Vivan and Andre Russell retired from the international cricket game. While Russell was expected, Poran’s decision surprised many because of his potential.
