The closing arguments are scheduled to start in the Jimmy Lay national security trial, a violent critic of the Chinese Communist Party.

US President Donald Trump has renewed his promise to “save” the Hong Kong Jimmy Lay, who is being tried for alleged national security crimes over his pro -democracy and combating the Communist Party in China.

“I will do my best to save him,” Trump told Radio Fox News in the United States.

Trump’s comments came as final causes in the prominent trial of Lay.

The final arguments were paid from Friday to Monday after Lay’s lawyer said he had suffered Heart palpitations.

The second delay is in several days, after the Hong Kong courts were closed due to bad weather.

Trump previously pledged to save Lay during an interview last October, a few weeks before his election as a president, and said he “will take him 100 percent.”

Lai is one of the most prominent Hong Kong to be charged under the National Security Law Drakconian 2020 in the city, and his case has been topped with the headlines of international newspapers.

The 77 -year -old is a long -standing opponent of the Communist Party of China thanks to his ownership of Apple Daily, a Tabloid newspaper in support of democracy.

He faces two charges of “collusion with foreign forces” and a separate charge of sedition in the long -term national security trial that started in December 2023.

If convicted, he can spend the rest of his life in prison. He always protested his innocence.

Lay was arrested for the first time in 2020, a few months after Beijing imposed the new national security law in Hong Kong, who has derived the city’s pro -democracy movement and classified public protests as separation, sabotage and terrorism.

The law was later expanded in 2024 to include more crimes such as espionage and sabotage.

Lai has been working continuously since December 2020, and has been making a separate prison sentence to participate in a banned candle light and “fraud” in the office rental agreement.

He spent more than 1,600 days in solitary confinement, according to the UK -based Hong Kong Watch headquarters, despite his age and health complications.

Lai was also rejected by the lawyer he chooses during the trial and access to independent medical care.

He is expected to judge his trial within days.
