Hemp shares rise after the US president says he “is looking to re -classify.
US President Donald Trump said his administration was “looking” in re -classification of cannabis as a less dangerous drug.
Speaking to the White House journalists on Monday, Trump said he would make a decision on the legal classification of drugs in the next few weeks.
“We hope this design will be correct,” Trump said. “It is a very complex topic.”
Trump said that although he heard “great things” about hashish medical use, he heard bad things about “everything else” to do the drug.
He said: “Some people love it, some people hate it.” “Some people hate the entire concept of marijuana because if it is bad for children, this is bad for the older people.”
The shares increased in hemp companies after Trump’s comments.
New York -based Tilray Brands jumped about 42 percent, as Village Farms International and Canopy Growth Corp closed 34 percent and 26 percent, respectively.
Trump made his comments after the Wall Street Journal reported last week that he had told those present at a dinner to collect the last donations that he was interested in re -classification of drugs.
While hashish is completely legal, including recreational use, in 24 American states, the use and possession of drugs is illegal at the federal level.
Cannabis is currently classified as a drug in the first table, and places it in the same category as heroin, LSD and ecstasy.
Under the drug control management classification system, medications are defined in the ID Table as “that” there is no currently acceptable medical use and a high ability to abuse. “
Former US President Joe Biden proposed to reclassify cannabis as a drug in the third table – It is defined as “who have” moderate to low physical and psychological accreditation ” – failed at the age of change before leaving the office in January.
