Trump says he will try to return to Ukraine in talks with Putin

US President Donald Trump said he would try to restore some lands to Ukraine during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

“Russia has occupied a large part of Ukraine. They have occupied the main lands. We will try to restore some of this region to Ukraine,” he said at a press conference.

He and the Russian president are scheduled to talk in Alaska at the end of the week. Trump claimed that he could know within two minutes of Putin’s interview whether progress is possible.

He said that Friday would be a “meeting of feeling” aimed at urging Putin to end the war – which indicates that he might see the summit as just an initial meeting.

Trump again warned that there would be “some swap and changes in the land” between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump said he would update European leaders if Putin suggested a “fair deal” during the talks, adding that he would talk to Ukraine President Voludmir Zelinsky first “respect.”
