Here are the main events on the 1262 day of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Here is how things stand on Saturday, August 9:
Fighting

- The Ukrainian journalist Victoria Rocchina, who died in Russian families last year, was buried in Kiev, while her colleagues called for international pressure to secure the release of the other Ukrainian reporters who Moscow detained.
cease-fire
- US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate ending the war in Ukraine on August 15 in Alaska. Trump announced social media after he said that the parties, including Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski, were close to the ceasefire deal that could resolve the conflict for three years.
- In his speech to address reporters at the White House earlier on Friday, Trump suggested that the agreement would include some land exchange. “There will be some land swap to improve the two,” Trump said.
- Putin has made the Trump administration a ceasefire proposal that requires major regional concessions by Kiev and pressure to recognize the global demand for Moscow’s demands for Ukrainian lands in exchange for stopping the fighting, citing European and Ukrainian officials.
- Putin spoke to the leaders of China and India and three preceding Soviet countries in a set of invitations to inform them of his contacts with the United States about the war in Ukraine.
- In his nation’s evening speech, President Zelinski said it is possible to achieve a ceasefire as long as sufficient pressure was applied to Russia. He said he had more than ten talks with leaders of various countries, and his team was in constant contact with the United States.
Economy and financing
- The Utawa Ministry of Finance said in a statement that the European Union and the United Kingdom will reduce the maximum prices paid for Russian-Russian crude oil to 47.60 dollars from $ 60 a barrel on the Moscow war in Ukraine.
- Ukraine is scheduled to obtain more than 3.2 billion euros ($ 3.73 billion) of financing after the European Council adopted a resolution on the fourth regular exchange of support under the Ukrainian EU facility.
- The council said that funding aims primarily to enhance total financial stability in Ukraine and support the work of its general administration.
