One of the senior United Nations officials warned that there will be “catastrophic consequences” if Israel expands its military operations in Gaza, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reports to restore complete work.
The Assistant Secretary -General Miroslav Gina told the United Nations Security Council that this step will be “very worrying”, and it may be exposed to the lives of more Palestinians, as well as the Israeli hostages maintained by Hamas.
Israeli media reported that Netanyahu is planning to meet the security cabinet this week.
A senior Israeli official was quoted as saying, “The template has been thrown. We are going to the complete opening of the Gaza Strip – and the defeat of Hamas,” and quoted a senior Israeli official as saying.
The security cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Thursday, will need to agree to such a measure.
It has suggested that the plan may be a negotiating tactic to pressure Hamas after a recent collapse of the ceasefire talks, or an attempt to support partners in the extreme right coalition in Netanyahu.
When asked whether he would support an Israeli plan to restore both Gaza, US President Donald Trump answered: “This will return to Israel.”
Israel is facing increasing international pressure on the war in Gaza, where experts say famine is revealing.
In his statements, Gina warned of any expansion of Israel’s military operations.
“This would risk catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians and can expose the lives of the royal hostages in Gaza,” he said.
He added that under international law, Gaza “must remain an integral part of a future Palestinian state.”
The Israeli army said it was already operating control of 75 % of Gaza, but the new plan will suggest occupying the entire region – including areas where more than two million Palestinians live now.
The proposals have proven to be divided in Israel, with reports that the army commander and other military leaders are opposing the strategy.
The Israeli official, whose name was not revealed, said: “If this does not succeed with the chief of staff, he must resign.”

The hostages of the hostages expressed their fear that such a decision may endanger their loved ones.
Israel says 49 hostages are still being held in Gaza, and it is believed that 27 of them have died.
Jenča has repeated the United Nations Security Council to a ceasefire and immediate and unconditional issuance of all hostages.
Quoting the “abnormal” and “inhuman” circumstances faced by the Palestinians, he urged Israel to immediately allow adequate aid.
“Israel continues to restrict the severe humanitarian assistance that is entering Gaza, and the aid allowed to enter is very insufficient,” said Gina.
He also condemned the ongoing violence in food distribution sites, saying that more than 1,200 Palestinians have been killed since the end of May while trying to reach food and supplies.
Last week, the Hamas -running Ministry of Health in Gaza said 154 people, including 89 children, have died due to food shortages since October 2023.
UN agencies have warned of a mass hunger in Gaza, and reported at least 63 deaths related to malnutrition this month.
Israel has previously insisted that there are no restrictions on the aid surrender and that there is “starvation” in Gaza.
Israel launched its military attack in Gaza in response to Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken to Gaza as hostages.
More than 60,000 Palestinians were killed as a result of the military campaign of Israel, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.
