The US President urged the Republicans to redraw the map to help the party in a few seats in the middle of next year.
Democrats in Texas collectively leave the state in an attempt to prevent the state representatives council from making a vote on Monday on the maps of the new Congress that Republicans hope to win in many additional US House of Representatives seats in the mid -term elections for 2026 to support their narrow majority.
On Sunday Democrats, the dramatic step can be presented to fines and other penalties, as the state prosecutor previously threatened to arrest them if they take such a measure. The refusal to attend legislative sessions is a civil violation, so Democrats cannot be legally imprisoned, and it is not clear who has the ability to carry out orders.
Democrats made a decision to leave the state as a last effort to prevent Republicans who fully control the government of Texas from pressure on a rare return in the middle of the decade to draw the map of Congress towards President Donald Trump.
Trump is eager to avoid repeating his first term, when Democrats turned against the House of Representatives to only two years of his presidency, hindering his legislative plans, and hopes that the new Texas map will help in this effort.
“This is not a decision we make lightly, but it is a decision we make in absolute moral clarity,” said Jin Woo, Speaker of the Democratic Parliament, in a statement.
For official work, there must be at least 100 members of the Texas house, which consists of 150 members.
Democrats carry 62 seats in the most Republican room. Josh Rush Nissenson, a spokesman for the Democratic Parliament, said that at least 51 democratic members leave the state.
He said: “The indifference is modest, and we will not be complicit in silencing the societies that work hard and that have spent decades in the fight for the power that Trump wants to steal.”
Facing in 2021
This step is the second time four years ago that Democrats in Texas fled the state to prevent voting.
In 2021, a 38 -day confrontation took place when Democrats left Washington, DC, in opposing the new voting restrictions.
Republican ruler Greg Abbott invited a special session of the legislative body that started last month to take over the division of departments, as well as to respond to the floods in Texas Hill Control, which killed at least 135 people in July.
The Republicans in Texas revealed last week the map of the planned new United States’s home, which would create five new Republicans. Republicans are currently running 25 seats out of 38 seats in the state.
