A pro -Palestine march closes the Sydney Port Bridge

Moving ahead with the planned protest through the Sydney Port Bridge after it was authorized by the Supreme Court only one day ago, while the organizers called it a “historic” decision.

Thousands turned into a march for humanity on Sunday despite heavy rains.

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange was seen among the demonstrators, along with the other prominent attendees, including federal MP Ed Hosik and former Prime Minister Bob Car.

Sydney Port Bridge was the last time in the General Assembly in 2023, when about 50,000 people walked on the famous road to the world’s pride.

After two hours of the march, the attendees received a text from the New South Wales police read, “In consultation with the organizers, the march must stop due to public safety and wait for more instructions.”

They asked everyone to the bridge to stop walking north and returning to the city in a “controlled” way.

The police have not yet provided the numbers that attend the march.

Requesting transportation for New South Wales, car drivers to avoid the city, and to warn of the major delays and disturbances via the Sydney road and transportation network in Sydney due to the protest.

The Activists in Sydney Palestine presented a notice of the intention in a march across the Sydney Port Bridge last Sunday, in response to what was called “brutality” in Gaza.

The police refused to demand the basis that there was not enough time to prepare a traffic management plan, and warned against crushing possible crowds and other safety concerns.

In a statement the next day, New South Wales Prime Minister Chris Mins said they could not allow Sidni to “slip to chaos” and will not be able to support the protest “this scale and nature” on the bridge.

The police also submitted a request to the New South Wales Supreme Court for a ban on the event, which was rejected just 24 hours before moving forward.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Judge Bellinda Reggi said that safety concerns related to the march were “well established”, but the organizer of Mars Josh is not from the Palestinian working group has clarified the reasons that make him believe that there is a urgency to respond to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

She said that there is no evidence that the ban will enhance public safety, and ordered the closure of the Sydney Motor Port Bridge, in addition to the roads surrounding the proposed path.

The last hour license means that those present will be protected under the brief crime law, which means that they will not be imposed on crimes related to the general assembly, such as banning traffic.

The Jewish House of Representatives in New South Wales said they “are disappointed” from the Supreme Court’s decision to authorize the protest against the Sydney Port Bridge, in a statement published in Instagram.

Australia was subjected to increasing pressure to recognize the Palestinian state, after France, Canada and the United Kingdom indicated separately that they would do so with the circumstances in the next United Nations General Assembly in September.

Speaking about the ABC 7.30 program, Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz said he wanted to see the conditions that achieve permanent security of Israel before Australia committed to recognition of a Palestinian state, and that he would not be pushed to the decision of other countries.
