Ukrainian deputy and other officials were arrested after anti -corruption agencies in the country revealed what they call the bribery scheme widely in buying drones and electronic warfare systems.

In a statement issued by X, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian deputy and heads of departments in the provinces and the city and many members of the National Guard service had been subjected to their participation, which included government contracts with suppliers registration at prices by up to 30 %.

Zelensky wrote that there could be no “zero tolerance” of corruption in Ukraine, and thanked the agencies for its work.

The independence of anti -corruption agencies in Ukraine was restored on Thursday, after protests worldwide.

The Zelinski government faced a wide violent reaction after submitting a bill that would strip the National Anti -Corruption Office and the Prosecutor’s Office for Anti -Corruption, known as Nabo and SAP, respectively, for their independence.

The President claimed that the agencies needed to “cleanse them from Russian influence”, and he sought to give the public prosecutor an authority to determine who should be prosecuted in high -level corruption cases.

Many have seen this step as a step back to corruption in Ukraine, which led to the largest anti -government demonstrations since Russia has launched a large -scale invasion of the country in 2022.

Zelinski admitted the general anger and presented a new bill that regains the independence of the previous agencies, which was voted through Parliament only nine days after the approval of the original draft law.

The head of the Main Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (Hur), Kirillo Bodanov, thanked Zelinski for “hearing the public’s invitation” regarding the authorities of anti -corruption agencies and “not making a mistake.”

This step also praised the European Union allies, who expressed their concerns about the repercussions of the original draft law.

Anti -corruption is important in Ukraine’s attempt to join the European Union. The establishment of Nabu and SAP was a condition by the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund in 2014, in order to move towards the visa restrictions.

As a result, Kyiv was given the European Union candidate in 2022, making the nation another step towards closer relationships with the West.

Since its inception, Nabu and SAP have participated in long -term investigations in embezzling the origins of millions of dollars of assets and bribes across the various ministries and sectors.

A joint investigation was performed in 2023 The arrest of the head of the Supreme Court in Ukraine, Vsevolod KniazievWith regard to bribery of $ 3 million (2.4 million pounds; 2.9 million euros).
