Chincotecue Wild Ponies has a annual swimming via the Assateague channel in Virginia for a hundred time.
This tradition began in 1925 and sees “cows with salt water” on horse appearance around the dowries, who then swim the channel and come to the beach on the eastern side of the Chinchteg Island.
The event hosted by the Chincoteague Fire Department, which runs dowries, includes an auction for some foals.
Money collected helps control the size of the herd to help keep the dowry in good health in Assateague, where dowries live most of the year.
