According to most criteria, Deepinder Goyal has already arrived. After expanding the zomato range to one of the leading consumer technology platforms in India, it could have converted gears – the saved investor, or embracing startups, or returned to the software comfort zone.
Instead, GOYAL does something that a few expect: addressing one of the most complex and long-term technological limits-jet engine.
Through the Latin Aerospace space, which he co-founded with Zomato Coo Surobhi Das, GOYAL builds a completely local-designed local gas turbocharge engine, tested and established in India.
It is a leap that aims to keep the country away from deep dependence on foreign payment systems, which increases most of its civil and military aircraft.
India’s previous efforts to build a jet engine, such as the Kaveri program, which was launched in the 1980s, laid the founding foundation but faced sharp challenges. Among them: insufficient payment, material technology gaps, and global access to post -core sanctions. The parallel development of the Tejas fighter added more pressure to the already complex engineering and testing cycles.
While the Kaveri project has not entered the publication of Frontline Fighter, it has made great knowledge in the science of turbines, and since then it has evolved towards drones and naval aircraft applications.
GOYAL approach through Latin flying is radically different in the range and structure. Instead of targeting highly warm combat engines from the first day, LAT focuses on lightweight and effective drones designed, regional aircraft, takeoff and short landing planes (STOL)-groups that require light movement, not brutal power.
It is an engineering strategy from bottom up with long -term defense capabilities.
Its headquarters is located in Bangaluru, and it is equipped with advanced laboratories for turbine, combustion, materials and thermal systems. Goyal has invested more than 166.5 rupees (about 20 million dollars) of personal capital to build an engineering culture first.
The difference is enabled to the initial model quickly, testing and repeating with the minimum administrative friction. “There are no segments or chasing meetings,” said one of the team members. “Only machines, data and results.”
Time is suitable. The world jet engine market, which was linked to $ 118.7 billion in 2025, is scheduled to grow to 204.8 billion dollars by 2032, with the high demand through defense, regional aviation and unmanned air systems. However, the entire sector is dominated by a handful of non-Indian-GE, Rolls-Royce, Safran and Pratt & Whitney.
India, although it is the third largest stampede in the world and a main flight market, still imports its jet engines. LAT work is one of the first serious private sector attempts to build that lost capacity.
Meanwhile, Andra Pradesh is looking for this shift with interest. The state is pushing difficult to become the nuclei of the air space in India, where lands, subsidies and infrastructure of the test and production has been provided. Its ambitions not only attract private players such as LAT, but also revive large projects associated with Hal’s LCA, LCH and AMCA programs. The new test facilities, which are currently used external sources abroad, are also in the list of wishes.
If the LAT succeeds, this may lead to a turning point – which leads to controlling the payment systems only, but it is likely to become a global source.
