Rapper Ice Spice She faced a wave of backlash after arriving nearly 30 minutes late for her highly anticipated New Year’s Eve performance at the Wildlands Festival in Queensland, Australia.

Frustrated fans, some of whom traveled up to six hours and spent more than $350 per ticket, took to social media to express their anger.

Video footage of the short and chaotic display quickly went viral, with many questioning the lack of professionalism and festival time management.

In response to the backlash, Wildlands Festival Organizers released a statement on Instagram addressing the situation:

“We understand that Ice Spice’s late arrival has caused some disappointment. Running a busy festival means we have to be very strict with specific times. We had a strict 12.30pm curfew and needed to make sure the final show took place.” On stage at the appointed time, so everyone can enjoy the New Year’s Eve countdown.”

Gold Coast music journalist and podcaster Brenton Larney was in attendance for the short six-minute show.

Mia Sims, a 20-year-old dance teacher from the Gold Coast, shared that she and many others arrived 30 minutes early to secure a good spot in the pit before Ice Spice’s scheduled show. As a result, fans were squeezed together for nearly an hour, all in what turned out to be a very short set.

“She came out and played a couple of songs — and they weren’t even two of her most popular songs,” Sims said. “It seemed like a bit of a joke, like she didn’t care much, especially since she didn’t post anything on social media or apologize. So I couldn’t imagine being one of her biggest fans and this being the case. I would be so devastated.”
