Manchester United goalkeeper David de Jia open to Real Madrid’s failed move

David de Jia said he will not reveal the full story behind his failed move to Real Madrid even after his retirement, although he believed the result was in the end for the better.

The Spaniard was about to move from Manchester United to Madrid on the day of the date of the summer of 2015, but the deal collapsed due to the late papers.

545 games appeared with Red Devils before leaving the club in 2023 when his contract ended.

One year after football, De Gea fell with Fiorentina in 2024 as a free agent. He described the rest as mentally and physically transformative.

“It was one of the best years of my life,” he said. “In that Tapician year, I did a good world, mentally and physically: I was slightly upset. I felt that time had come to stop and return stronger and went well.”

Although he received offers to stay in the Premier League, de Jia explained that joining another English club was never an option.

“It is true that I got offers from other English clubs, but in my heart, it was impossible to play with another club. I just wanted to play with United because it was the club in which I evolved, where I was in most of my career and I had a very good profession there. I also got offers from other countries.”

In 34 years, De Gea seems to have found a second wind in Italy. He kept 11 clean sheets through 42 games last season, and his future commitment to Fiorentina by signing a new contract that would keep him in the club until June 2028.
