An official at MSF says that the Ethiopian forces “executed” relief workers in the Tigray conflict

A senior official at the MSF, said that the Ethiopian government forces “carried out” three employees of the medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) while carrying out a humanitarian mission in the Tigray area in Ethiopia four years ago.

Rakel Iura’s comments came when MSF released his results about what he called “deliberate killing and targeting” of the three killing – Spanish citizen and two Ethiopians – at the height of the conflict that is now ending in Tigray.

“They have been executed,” said Ms. Iura, Director General of Spain. “They were facing their attackers (and) they were shot at a very close distance … several times.”

BBC asked the Ethiopian government to respond to this claim.

Doctors Without Borders said it was launching its results because the government has failed to provide a “reliable account” with deaths despite 20 meetings to face over the past four years.

The 32 -year -old Spaniard Maria Hernandez Matas was killed with 32 -year -old Johannes Hilvom Rida and 32 -year -old Tedros Gabrimiam, on June 24, 2021 while traveling in central Tigray to assess medical needs.

“They were very professionals and emotional,” Ms. Iuara told the BBC.

She added that the three were fully specified in the jackets of MSF and that their car had the knowledge of the charity and slogans on both sides when they were shot.

“Therefore, they (the Ethiopian forces) knew that they were killing humanitarian relief workers,” she said, adding that the road travel had been shared in advance with the combat groups.

The Tigray conflict erupted in 2020 after a tremendous decrease between regional and federal governments, with the neighboring Eritrea entered the war along with the ENDF.

The conflict ended two years after a peace agreement in which the African Union (AU) mediated. Her envoy, former Nigerian President Ulsigon Obasango, has developed the number of people who died in the conflict by about 600,000.

The researchers said the deaths were the result of fighting, hunger and a lack of health care.

In her report in her report, she said that the killings occurred at a time when the conflict was intensifying, and the Ethiopian and Eritrean forces became increasingly hostile to relief workers in the area.

Mrs. Ayora said that Mrs. Matas has been working in Tigray since before the war and was “very loved” by people in the area.

The official of the Doctors Without Borders added that her death was particularly destroyed for her mother because she was her only child.

Mr. Tedros was killed shortly after his wife’s child was born. Ayora said his widow called the child Maria, after the killing of her Spanish colleague.

The bodies of Mrs. Matas and Mr. Johannis were found between 100 meters (300 feet) and 400 meters from their car wreck.

Mrs. Iura said that the body of Mr. Tedros, the driver, was found by the car.

Mrs. Iura said that the car was shot several times and was burned on the main road from the town of Abi Adi to Yashlia.

She said that Mrs. Matas and Mr. Johannis were walking when she was shot, adding: “We do not know whether they were called to interrogate or decided to communicate with the soldiers.”

Doctors Without Borders said it relied on satellite images, witnesses and information available to the public about the movements of the Ethiopian army at the time of the killings to extract their conclusions.

The Charitable Society added that its achievement was the status of the Ethiopian forces in the “precise location”, where the killings occurred.

The MSF report quoted the witnesses as saying that they were screaming at an officer who informs the local commander of the white car that is approaching from it and the driver who submits a request to shoot.

Moments later, it was claimed that the commander was informed that the soldiers tried to shoot, but the car had turned towards Abu Adi and stopped, and then the commander gave an order to “go and arrest them” and “remove them”, according to the report.

Mrs. Iwara BBC told the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice officials in mid -2012 MSF in mid -2012 that their initial investigations showed that government forces were not at the place of killing.

However, officials refused to do so in writing, and the charitable organization continued to engage with the government to end the “impunity” at a time when an increasing number of relief workers were killed in conflicts all over the world, Ms. Iura said.
