Manchester United appointed the Olympic legend Lord Sebastian Ko to measure the development of their new stadium, which is 100,000 proposals – the axis of the Old Trafford Renewal project.
COE, who won the Olympic Gold medal twice and the current president of world athletics, was named a chair for the Municipal Development Foundation (MDC), a new body that oversees the transformation of the area surrounding Bold Trafford.
The project, which is expected to extend after a decade, aims to present a modern stadium-which will become the largest in the United Kingdom-but also to stimulate the area surrounding investment in housing, infrastructure, education and transportation.
United revealed for the first time its plans to obtain a new 2 billion pounds in March, which will be built near the current stadium – which is widely seen as old and in a bad condition. The club hopes to complete the project within five to six years, and eventually hosts the FIFA World Cup 2035 in the new place.
Lord Ko, who previously led to a business group to renew Old Trafford – who explored the initial feasibility of the stadium and the broader development – and chaired the Successful Olympic and Disable Olympic show in London, said he was “pleased” to continue working on the initiative.
“Throughout my career, I saw the difference that the sporting renovation could make in strengthening strong societies and acting as an incentive for economic growth,” ” Co said. “It was certainly true in the 2012 London Olympics and the Disabled Olympics – and now, I think, it’s the moment of the Great Manchester.”
“This is more than just a stadium. It is related to listening to the population and working with them to create a vibrant and comprehensive area, with high -quality housing, green spaces, recreational facilities and international levels, and improving transportation links.”
The CEO of United, Omar Perrada, praised the appointment: “The installed Lord Koi leadership and a busy record in providing transformational projects will be invaluable as we work together to turn our collective vision into a reality.”
