The UK Intelligence and Security Committee has warned that Iran is a “continuous and unpredictable threat to Britain, highlighting the threat of Tehran towards dissidents and heads of the United Kingdom.

The report said that since the beginning of 2022, there has been a “significant increase” in Iranian threats to people living in the United Kingdom, including “15 attempts to kill or kidnappings against British or individuals in the United Kingdom.”

“This threat is sharply focused on dissidents and other opponents of the regime. There is also an increasing threat against the Jewish and Israeli interests in the United Kingdom,” according to the report, who said that many attacks were carried out by “third -party agents.”

“Iran does not view attacks on dissident, Judaism and Israeli targets in the United Kingdom as attacks on the United Kingdom,” the report said.

“We encourage the government and its international partners to clarify Iran – at every opportunity – that such attacks will actually constitute an attack on the United Kingdom and will receive the appropriate response,” she added.

The report comes shortly after Iran’s position alongside Russia at the highest level of the new registry of the British government to track “foreign influence”.

The committee took evidence from August 2021 to August 2023, before Hamas’s attack on October 7 on Israel and the conflicts that followed in the Middle East.

The authors of the report acknowledged that “the scene in the Middle East has changed significantly,” but said that his broader view of Iran’s activities was “relevant.”

The report warned of Iranian espionage and electronic threats and said that the United Kingdom was a “goal of priority”, but he said that the threat was “narrower” and “less developed” than those posed by Russia and China.

The government recommended following a long -term approach to Iran’s threat, saying that many government measures were “firefighting” in response to immediate crises.
