Texas floods kill at least 13 people, and 23 missing camp girls Flood news

Thunderstorms and heavy rains in the United States led to a fatal flood along the Guadalobi River in the south of Texas, killing at least 13 people and leaving more than 20 girls from a missing summer camp, according to the local authorities.

The US National Weather Service announced a state of flash flooding on Thursday for parts of the CARE province, in the south of the central Texas Hill, about 105 km (65 miles) northwest of San Antonio, after heavy rains of 300 mm (1 feet).

Dalton Rice, city manager at Kerville, the provincial headquarters, told reporters that the severe floods he suffered before dawn without a little or non -warning, preventing the authorities from issuing any evacuation orders.

“This happened very quickly, during a very unpredictable short period of time, even with the radar,” Rice said. “This happened in less than two hours.”

Lieutenant Dan Patrick said somewhere between six and 10 bodies that have been found so far in the frantic search for the victims. Meanwhile, during a press conference held at the same time by Patrick’s update, Kiir County Sharif Larry La Betha reported that there were 13 deaths from floods.

Patrick said that 23 girls were included as unaccounted from among more than 700 children who were in a summer camp when flood water swept it around four in the morning local time (09:00 GMT).

“This does not mean that they are lost; they can be in a tree, and they can be out of contact,” he said.

Pour at least 250 mm of rain during the night in the Central County County, causing the flooding of the Guadalpe River and leading to desperate appeals to obtain information about the missing.

“Some of them are adults, some of whom are children,” Patrick said at a press conference. “Once again, we don’t know where these bodies came from.”

The teams conducted dozens of rescue operations, and the respondents continued to search for those who were missing.

Patrick said: “I ask the people of Texas, and do some serious prayer this afternoon,” Patrick said.

He said that the Guadalobi River rose 8 meters (26 feet) in 45 minutes in the midst of the heavy rains that flood the area. The search teams flying 14 helicopters and dozens of drones in the area, as well as hundreds of emergency personnel on the ground who rescue from trees and rapid flowing water.

Patrick said: “An additional rain is expected in those areas,” Patrick said. “Even if the rain is light, more floods can occur in those areas. There is a constant threat to potential floods from San Antonio to Waku for the next 24 to 48 hours in addition to the ongoing risks in West and Central Texas.”

Patrick read a message from the director of the summer camp, who had about 750 of the camp during the long weekend on July 4, and informed that it “received a catastrophic level of floods.”

“We do not have strength, water, or wi-fi”, the message said.

Government and local officials warned the population traveling to the area, which include the dotted camps along the river, with dozens of “improper” roads.

Videos on social media showed homes and trees that were swept by a flash flood during the night caused by heavy rain, which is 300 mm-a third of the average annual rainfall in Kiir Province.

The governor of the state of Texas, Greg Abbott, shared a video of X from a victim that was extracted from the top of the tree by one of the movables hanging from a helicopter with the outbreak of flood water below.

Officials said that members of the US Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency were activated to help the local authorities in the crisis.

Freeman Martin, director of the state’s public safety department, said the flood was a “collective event.”

Martin warned, “The rain has surrendered, but we know that there is another upcoming wave,” saying that more rain will hit the areas around San Antonio and Austin.
