Russia is the first to realize the Taliban government in Afghanistan

Russia has become the first country to officially recognize the Taliban, as the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan, described the “brave” decision.

The Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dmitry Cernov, met in Kabul on Thursday, Where Mr. Zirnov officially conveyed his government’s decision to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Muttaqi said it is a “new stage of positive relationships, mutual respect and constructive participation”, and that the transformation will be a “example” for other countries.

The Taliban has sought international appreciation and investment since their return to power in August 2021, despite reports of increased violations on human rights.

“We believe that the act of official recognition of the government of the Emirati Emirate in Afghanistan will give record strength to develop dual -production cooperation between our countries,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

She said that Russia saw the possibility of “commercial and economic” cooperation in “energy, transportation, agriculture and infrastructure”, and that it will continue to help Kabul to fight terrorist threats and drug trafficking.

Russia was one of the very few countries that did not close its embassy in Afghanistan in 2021, and said on Telegram that “expanding the dialogue with Kabul” was very important in terms of regional security and economic development.

The country was also the first to sign an international economic deal with the Taliban in 2022, as they agreed to provide oil, gas and wheat to Afghanistan.

The Taliban was removed from the list of terrorist organizations in Russia in April this year with the intention of paving the way to create a “full partnership” with Kabul, according to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also referred to the Taliban as a “ally” in the fight against terrorism in July last year, where representatives travel to Moscow to hold talks early in 2018.

The two countries have a complex date, after the Soviet Union invaded the country in 1979 and fought a nine -year war costing 15,000 employees.
