I spent an hour to drive Aston Martin with a value of $ 250,000 on the Los Angeles coast when it became impossible to ignore hunger pain, and as I did several times before, I asked Siri (through Apple Carplay) to find me a place of Taco. But then I did something that no other car allows on this planet: I asked Siri to bomb the hesitant current and make the air cooler. This is because the Aston Martin DBX 2025 that I drove was the first car with it Apple CarPlay UltraThe developed version of the company’s cars program.
Apple appeared for the first time in CarPlay Ultra in WWDC 2025 last month, and this year’s version of Aston Martin DBX is the first vehicle you launch (associated with iPhone works iOS 18.5 or newer). While I was driving my car to the luxury intersection around it, I was dealing with other features that are not available in the regular CarPlay game, from the climate control to the radio to checking the pressure on the car tires. In the end, Ultra allows deeper access to more auto systems, which is good.
Inside Aston Martin DBX, the screen can pull climate control items and determine the temperature areas.
This reminded me of a lot of the new feature announced in Google I/O again in May: Google Bext-in, which allows users to similarly control more car systems directly from the program interface (in this case, Android Auto). When I got a demonstration of Google Lirection, sitting in the Volvo EX90 SUV, I saw what is the new integration of the Google Provided software: climate control, Gemini AI assisting, and even warnings about car maintenance problems.
But the name tells: Google Beginning-in car manufacturers to integrate Android deeper into their internal business of their cars. Relatively, it seems that support for Apple Carplay Ultra as if it will not require car manufacturers to do a lot of work to prepare their cars, just add a multi -coupled processor reasonably advanced on board that can deal with an increased important load. (Aston Martin will be able to add CarPlay Ultra support to the 2023 and 2024 collection through fixed program updates because it already contains adequate advanced central processing units.)
Both analysts reflect the various Apple and Google approaches to the following versions of car software. Apple weight is lighter, and apparently requires a lower commitment to the car manufacturer CarPlay Ultra into their cars (as long as it has enough treatment on board), which will pass through the iphone associated. Google Beginns requires much more integration, but it is very useful to leave your Android phone at home and still get a lot of its functions (regardless of getting messages and calls).
Note the colors and logo of the Aston Martin brand on the numbers (the speed meter on the left; RPM right), with space in the middle of the rotor application (maps, media, etc.).
Driving with Apple CarPlay Ultra: Climate Control, Radio and More
While I was wandering around Los Angeles in Aston Martin with Apple CarPlay Ultra, I can know the new features that I will miss as soon as I return to my most modest daily drivers.
Finally, I can call Siri and ask that a specific song (or just a band) play and make it pulled on Spotify. Since the Apple assistant now has access to climate control items, I asked to raise AC, and go fully. I asked to find taco sandwiches and suggested many fast food restaurants – well, it’s not perfect, but at least listen.
For me, Aston Martin keeps the physical handles alongside the processing process to control the fan speed, temperature, sterio size and countless road options (such as driving help) if the driver admires traditional controls, but all of them can also be changed in the interface. Now, things like radio controls are located (AM/FM and Satellite) and auto settings in their known applications at the CarPlay interface.
Ultimately, this will be one of the greatest advantages of CarPlay Ultra: If you enter an unfamiliar car (like rent), you still know exactly where everything is. There is no wrestling with a special program for the car maker or try to know where there are some settings or others. It is not a complete alternative – in the case of Aston Martin, there are still a few settings (such as the expected ocean light when the doors are dominated by the luxury auto industry, but they were woven to Carplay so that you can open these windows and return to the Apple interface without clearly changing applications.
David Lomb, CNET correspondent, stands in front of Aston Martin DBX 2025, the first vehicle to be launched with Apple CarPlay Ultra.
The proliferation that can be relied upon in the CarPlay program of Apple will become more important as cars switch their analog tool groups for screens, as Aston Martin did. There is still a touch of the signing of the advanced car industry, as the virtual screen behind the wheel displays two traditional numbers (one for the speed scale, one for RPMS) with Aston Martin’s Livery. But this can be replaced by other patterns, from other aspects with customizable colors to a full -screen maps option.
Each of the semi -decorative dashboard options or so is replaced by square touch panels smaller than ten cents on the wheel next to other touch control items. On the double display types, you scrolled vertically to rotate between the central box (with maps trends, current music or other application information) or passed horizontally to switch to the option of another information panel. Regardless of the person you choose, the lower tape contains all the drivers of the warning lamps that will be recognized by the analog cars – even with digital offers, you are not safe from the lighting engine light (which is good).
Apple CarPlay Ultra don’t do everything I want yet. I also hope to ask Siri to download Windows (Joogle Bread-In-Light can later) and lock or lock certain doors. If the Apple is connected to the car enough to be able to read the pressure in each frame, I hope that you link it to the engine readings and be able to tell me in a clear language about the type of maintenance that arose. HECK, I hope you can contact the car from a distance and detonate the frequency current before entering (or shooting on the warmth of the seat), and some royal car applications can do. While Apple and Waze maps will be included at all, the support of Google Maps is not, but it will come later.
These are not huge deficiencies, and it shows the place where CarPlay Ultra will meet the driver’s needs better in future updates, despite security concerns that can be a potential flower to use CarPlay Ultra for a distant climate or lock capabilities. But he explains where the border is compared today with the most in -depth Google approach.
In Google I/O, the company had an offer with Volvo EX90 Electric Suvs to display Google Breact-in.
Google built
The next day, the Google I/O keynote word was quieter in May, when the attendees fluctuated between concentrated sessions and illustrations for the upcoming programs. This was the perfect time to check Google Bleant-in, which was appropriately displayed in the Volvo EX90 Electric Suv (although it’s not expensive like Aston Martin).
As we mentioned above, at Google Bred-in deeper integration with vehicles than I saw in Apple CarPlay Ultra, allowing users to change climate through the interface or access to other systems, including through audio requests. For example, it can go beyond the frequency current control to disrupt the Defroster, and even lift and lower the specified windows for the spokesperson: the cameras inside the car (in the rear vision mirror, if I remember the right) means that when my protesters asked to “wrap this window” that indicates his left shoulder, the right window rolls.
Google Beginning-in is also associated with Guegle AI, what the company “Google Live”, which is a separate and more capable version of ASO Assoant experience in cars at the present time. Through a live session, I can order music or trends just as I can with Siri – but the experimental offer has gone further, as the Gemini protester was assigned more suitable requests for the organizational males, such as the question, “give me suggestions for a family picnic” and tell him to send a specific text to a contact.

Then the Gemini protester asked for the recipe advice – “I have chicken, rice and broccoli in the refrigerator, what can I do?” An example of a query that someone might ask at home.
Since you have fallen on your Google account, Gemini can consult anything related to, such as emails and messages. It is also trained on the user’s evidence from every car maker, so if a warning light appears, the driver can ask the voice assistant about what he means-no more stirring through a thick guide that tries to know what every alert means.
There are other benefits for a built -in Google, such as the lack of your phone for some features. But there are also disadvantages, such as the need to maintain update the car program, which requires more work at the end of Google to ensure that cars are protected from problems or exploits. Not only can they fix it in the latest Android version – they will need to return the repair wallpaper to old versions that the vehicles may still be operating.
This deeper integration with Google Bredin has a lot of the benefits of Apple Carplay Ultra (familiar interface, and easier access to features), only to some extent more. Certainly it benefits fans of hands control elements, and the interrelated Gemini corresponds to Google’s investments, so it is easy to see this job improves. But the greatest dependence on Android may be within the car systems regarding the age of the car: Will the program stop supporting it? Will you slow down or have exploited security? Many questions remain with regard to making cars open for phone programs.
