Angélique Kidjo First Black African to get the Hollywood celebrity star

The Angélique Kidjo icon has become the first black African origin to be chosen for a star for the prestigious Hollywood celebrities.

Kidjo, who comes from the country of Benin West, won five Grammy Awards, out of 35 names announced as part of the Walk of Fame menu in 2026.

The 64 -year -old was welcomed as “Premier Diva” in Africa during a press conference announced on the list on Wednesday.

The singer Miley Cyrus, actor Timothy Chalmet, actress Demi Moore and former basketball player Shakil O’Neil among those who are honored with a star in the famous walking in Los Angeles.

Kidjo receives honor after making music for more than four decades and release 16 albums.

The S.ugnstric won fans all over the world with her leader and its ability to integrate West African patterns with the likes of Funk, Jazz and R&b.

Its long list of collaborators includes forces such as Burna Boy, Philip Glass, Sting and Alicia Keys.

Kidjo joins Charlize Theron, the White Actress in South Africa, in the representation of Africa in walking fame. Theron received its star in 2005.

Kidjo has not been announced that her star was revealed in The Walk of Fame.

After choosing the beneficiaries for a star, they have two years to determine the date of the introductory celebrations.

Kidjo grew up in Benin, but he left for Paris in 1983, citing the repression from the communist government in the country at the time.

“From the moment when the Communist regime arrived in Benin, I realized that the freedom that we enjoy can be extracted in the second,” I was told BBC in 2023.

She said she was curious since childhood, adding: “My nickname was” when, when, why, how? “I want to understand things, to understand my place in this world.”

Kidjo worked as a support singer in France before he came out as a single artist in 1990, with Baraco’s album.

She is UNICEF Ambassador and Oxfam Goodwill, and she has its own charitable institution, Batonga, and she is devoted to supporting the education of young girls in Africa.
