Police said on Thursday that Liverpool player Dejo Jota and his brother died in a car accident in Spain.

The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed to the Associated Press that Gota and his brother found two dead after his car came out near the western city of Zamora.

The police were investigating the reasons. They said there are no other vehicles involved.

Gota, 28, and his brother, Andre Silva, 25, both Portuguese players, were in the car.

Jota also presented 49 games for the Portuguese national team and helped her win the Nations League last month.

Silva played with the Portuguese Penafiel club in the lower sections.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and won three main awards with the RDS team – including the Premier League title last season. He previously played with Wolverhampton, and with Porto in his homeland.

Jota’s death comes weeks after his wedding, to Rut Cardoso.

Liverpool appeared on Jota, where the club described it as “an unimaginable loss.”

“Unlevantary loss”

Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro described him as a “sad football day” in a social media post, which expands his condolences to the Jota family.

The Portuguese Football Association has issued a deputation of the deaths. Federation President Pedro Bruinsa said that Portuguese football was “completely destroyed.”

“More than a great player, with nearly 50 games for the national team, Dugo Jota was an extraordinary person, who was respectful of all his teammates and opponents. He had an infectious joy and was a reference in his community,” Bourrin said in the statement.

The Portuguese Federation said it was a minute requesting silence before the Thursday match between Portugal and Spain in the European Women’s Championship that is playing in Switzerland.

“We have lost two heroes,” Borrene said. “Their death is an irreparable loss for Portuguese football, and we will do our best to honor their legacy daily.”
