The richest 1 % in India has become more wealthy than the entire colonial elite in the country – with amazing 40.1 % – while the lower half of the population is only 6.4 %, according to a new analysis conducted by Hardic Joshi’s research analyst.

Joshi compared, citing data from the database of inequality in the world and India today, the current wealth gap under British rule.

“This is not an accident. It is a policy,” he wrote in a widely distributed LinkedIn post. “Half of the country is fighting for crumbs while a small part lives in an unimaginable luxury.”

Explicit numbers: The 10 % best gets 57.7 % of national income in India, while 50 % have just a fragment of the pie.

Joshi blames deviant tax symbols towards rich and weak labor laws, and unrestricted companies. He added: “The gains of the real estate market and the stock market often help those who are already capital.”

It argues that the system is wired to maintain the elite feature – it is not correct. “Unemployment does not harm those who have power – it helps them,” he wrote. “They finance the elections. They are the media’s account. They are pressing against redistribution.”

While India’s economy flourishes on paper, the benefits are largely limited to a narrow category. Joshi says the real issue is not a poverty – it is a distribution. “We produce enough wealth. We do not share it fairly.”

Joshi calls for urgent reforms: imposing taxes on wealth, promoting workers’ rights, investing in comprehensive health and education. He warned, “Until there is a real political will, this will continue to get worse.”

The system is not broken – it’s forged. “It is time to stop pretending that this is inevitable. It is time to ask who really serves the regime’s interests.”
