The United States stops some arms shipments to Ukraine, the White House says

The White House said that the United States had stopped some arms shipments to Kiev, and Russia’s war against Ukraine has intensified.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said on Tuesday that the decision was taken “to put America’s interests first” and followed a review of the Ministry of Defense for “military support and assistance to other countries.”

The United States has sent tens of billions of dollars from military aid to Ukraine since Russia has launched its invasion in February 2022, prompting some in the Trump administration to express that US stocks are very low.

The Ukrainian government did not comment on the advertisement. American officials did not immediately say the shipments that were stopped.

It is understood that air defense missiles and accuracy ammunition are among the affected weapons, according to Reuters.

Elberridge Colby, the United States’ defense undersecretary, said that the Ministry of Defense “continues to provide the president with strong options to continue military aid to Ukraine.”

At the same time, Colby added, “The administration is examining and adapting its approach to achieving this goal while maintaining the willingness of the American forces for administrative defense priorities.”

A US official said this step was based on concerns about the decrease in US military stocks.

Kelly added, “The power of the United States armed forces is still undoubtedly – just asking Iran,” referring to the American strikes in three Iranian nuclear sites last month.

The decision comes shortly after US President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Voludmir Zelinski, at the NATO summit in the Netherlands last week.

Macron’s office said that the two spoke for more than two hours, adding that the French president urged the ceasefire in Ukraine.

Putin responded by blame the West for the conflict. A Carmlin statement said that Putin reminded Macron that Western countries “have ignored for many years the security interests of Russia” and “created a bridge hostile to Russia in Ukraine.”

The suspension of American military aid comes when Russia rose its war against Ukraine.

During the weekend, Russia has launched one of its largest air attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of the war, using more than 500 different types of weapons, including drones, ballistic missiles and cruises.

On Tuesday, three people were killed in an Ukrainian attack on a Russian factory in Izvsk, more than 1000 km (620 miles) from the border with Ukraine.

Moscow is currently controlling about 20 % of Ukrainian lands, including the Crimea Peninsula attached in 2014.
