One person died and two others were injured after the explosion of several houses on the northern side in Philadelphia early Sunday, according to the authorities.
Firefighters responded to a report on an explosion before 5 am, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.
Daniel McCarte, the administration’s executive, said there is widespread damage to about five houses, including the collapsed structures. One person died and two others were rescued to the hospital. McCarte said that one of them was reported stable while the other was in critical condition.
The crews were expected to continue searches and rescue.

“The biggest thing is the stability of the surrounding homes, while making sure that this danger does not spread,” McCarte said.
“This will be a wide process throughout the day for the Philadelphia Fire Department.”
The authorities did not specify the cause of the explosion.
