Thousands gather to invite Patongtarn Shinawatra to resign

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Thai capital, Bangkok, and called for the resignation of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra after leaking a phone call with the former Cambodian leader Hun Sen.

In the call, which was about a recent incident on its borders, Hun Sen addressed that he was “uncle” and said that a Thai military commander was dealing with the conflict “only wanted to look great and said unhelpful things.”

The invitation sparked general anger and a major partner in its ruling alliance had resigned. Paetongtarn apologized, but he defended the call as a “negotiating technique”.

Before leaving to visit northern Thailand, Paetongtarn told the reporters that “the right of the people to protest, as long as it is peaceful.”

On Saturday, it was the largest of its kind since the arrival of the ruling Thai Party in 2023.

Thousands of seasonal winds challenged and banned roads in the Memorial Monument of Victory War in Bangkok, and they were waving Thai flags and signs of signs with slogans such as “IS Enemy of State”.

Protestive leader Burnithib Bourbonjan said the Prime Minister “must step down because it is the problem.”

Siri Sawango, 70, has overnightly traveled by bus from the north of the country to join the protest.

He told AFP that there was “to protect the sovereignty of Thailand and say that the Prime Minister is inappropriate.”

“I lived through many political crises and I know where this is happening,” he added.

Paetongtarn said it would not make future calls with the former Cambodian leader, but Parnthep told Reuters that many Thai people felt that she and her influential father were manipulated by Hun Sen.

Paetongtarn, 38, is the daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra, the former deposed Prime Minister who returned to Thailand last August after 15 years in exile. She was in office only for 10 months, and she is the second prime minister in the country, the first of which was her aunt Yingluck Shinawatra.

The demonstrators call for the end of the leadership of Shinwatra.

The assembly was organized by the United Earth force, a coalition of nationalist activists to a large extent who protested against other Shinwatra governments for more than two decades.

In a statement read to the crowd, the group said that the executive branch and parliament are not working in the interest of democracy and constitutional property.

In addition to flags and banners, people carried umbrellas to protect themselves from rain. When it stops, the rainbow is formed on the monument of victory.

On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court will decide whether a seam will be submitted by the members of the Senate who are searching for the removal of Paetongtarn because of the alleged lack of respect for Hun Sen.

The invitation was about a recent conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, which witnessed an increase in tensions in May after the killing of a Cambodian soldier in a clash on the border, and relations with the lowest level in more than a decade.

But the tension between the two countries dates back to more than a century, when the border was drawn after the French occupation of Cambodia.

Both imposed restrictions on the border on each other, while Cambodia banned Thai imports from food to electricity, as well as TV drama and Thai cinema.

Despite the tensions between their countries, the friendship of Xinwatras with the Hun family belongs to decades, and the father of Hun Sen and Beitonghin are considered to each other.
