Immediately after graduating from the university in 2015, Gurmer Chopra, 32, got his first role in “Big Four”. But after less than a year in the job, he decided to take off.

“Four months of that, I was (I was) like:” I hate it here. “Chopra said,” It was the most boring work, and I felt that I was making zero teams in the world. ” CNBC made it.

Chopra said: “At some point, (I started studying) in the examination of the approved public accountant) … Then I opened the book (and) I only remember reading the first page, and I think this literally when I realized that I could not do that in my life, or I will not be a happy person.”

At that time, he was also working on e -commerce on the side with his older brother Dashmeet Chopra. In their spare time, the duo went to the city center of Los Angeles for a source of elements such as shirts, jeans and shoes at wholesale prices and reselling them on EBY.

Their side bustle has since become Youngla, a lifestyle’s clothes brand that brought more than $ 176 million in 2024, according to the documents reviewed by CNBC.

From souvenirs to clothes

Originally from India, Chopra and his family migrated to the United States in 2002 and spent the first four years in New Jersey before landing in California. Chopra said that he obtained the entrepreneurship segments from his fatherand Who worked in a souvenir store after moving to the United States

His father eventually started a memorial company and managed some gift stores in Los Angeles. Chopra and his brother participated in the efforts of their father at an early age.

“This was frankly for me to have become a pioneer with my brother, because I was … I was 12 years old, and my father was helping to manage this work.”

After some time, bricks and mortars were operated, Abi Chopra realized that he had achieved better success by selling their goods online. Inspired by his discovery, the brothers decided to experience the e -commerce themselves.

Initially, my brother and I collected $ 5,000 and this is all that we have invested in the company. We have always been able to … just re -invest.

In March 2014, Chopra was studying economics and accounting at the University of California, Santa Barbara, when he and his brother opened for the first time the EBAY account.

“Initially, my brother and I collected $ 5,000, and this is all that we have invested in the company. We were always able to re -invest,” said Chopra. The two used these funds for their first few products.

He said: “We used to buy jeans, speak, trucks … Topak shirts, Biggie shirts … We will buy a lot of things from the center of Los Angeles, and a kind of just throwing a set of things on the wall. Whatever the lists that will start to appear, we will (a few) more time and effort in it.”

Besides the sale on EBY, Chopra and his brother also expanded to Amazon and Shopify, who decided to name Youngla.com – inspired by DJ on a local radio station called “Young California”.

From there, they focused their focus from the elements they just bought to go to the youngla brand. Chopra said they started to manufacture their own products and will add the name “Youngla.com” to the signs of their elements to create the brand’s recognition.

Chopra said that the company achieved the first million in its revenue in 2017. In the end, there were two main successes that provided the brand’s growth more: “low culture” and the marketing of the influence – both of which are still an essential part of business today.

Drop Culture is a marketing strategy where brands emit limited versions, or “drops”, at specific times, to create uniqueness and tinnitus on social media.

“In 2018, we started … with a focus on our website, and we wanted to create a kind of” projection culture. “So whenever a new product comes out, we would like to try to try it in advance and then drop it on the website.”

In 2019and Chopra added that Yongla signed its first major contract with one of the influencers, and by 2020, the company achieved more than $ 6 million of revenues. Last year, the company brought, on average, more than twice this amount in monthly revenue.
