The court finds that the journalist fired unfairly on the Gaza Post

A journalist won her case against the Australian national broadcaster, with the court’s ruling that it was fairly dismissed on the position of social media about the war in Gaza.

Antoinette Latov said that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) launched it without “appropriate basis” or “legal procedures” when its five -day contract was reduced as a radio presenter in December 2023.

Hours before her dismissal, Lattouf shared a post from Human Rights Watch (HRW) who was criticizing Israel, a step ABC said its editorial policy.

Latoff filed a lawsuit against illegal dismissal, claiming that she was expelled because of her political views and race, and after pressure from the pro -Israel groups.

Her dismissal led to a wave of public anger and the creation of disturbances in the public broadcaster – which raised questions about her independence and revive her concerns about how to support employees, especially those who vary culturally.

ABC questioned her expulsion, because they paid her entire contract.

On Wednesday, Judge Daril Ranjia ruled that ABC dismissed Mrs. Latov, for reasons that include her views about the Israeli military campaign in Gaza. The claim refused that it was expelled because of her race.

He received compensation for Mrs. LTOof, at a value of $ 70,000 (33,400 pounds, 45,400 dollars), but he said that he would hear arguments on both sides more penalties.

Lattouf – which is from the Lebanese heritage – has been a regular contributor to the Australian media for years, but also made a name for itself as active in issues such as racism, discrimination in the media and mental health.

Before her week’s work period started as an introduction to the Sabah ABC Radio program in Sydney, the broadcaster asked LTOof to limit her use on social media and agreed.

But she claimed that her manager said that she could share information from “good reputation” sources on the second day of her contract, as she reshaped the Instagram from HRW who accused Israel of using hunger as a tool in its war in Gaza – something that ABC informed itself. Israel denies the accusation.

Shortly after leaving the air the next day, LTOVE was informed of mobilizing things and leaving, with a decision to remove them from the ether waves that were immediately leaked to the media. This left her reputation in Thaters, says Latof.

She took her case to the fair work committee in Australia last year, which, after mediation failure, ruled that she was expelled and paved the way for her to do in the Federal Court.

There, the Lattouf team argued that ABC was affected by external pressure on its appointment as a temporary radio introduction, even before the short contract started.

Elizabeth Green, LTOof director, told the court that there is already pressure from “higher” to dismiss LTOof before sharing the HRW job.

The court heard that former ABC president ITA Buttrose has sent many emails that complain about Latov to senior managers.

The British Broadcasting Corporation has also seen dozens of WhatsApp messages of two groups who were subjected to a campaign to write concerted messages against Lattouf in the days before expelling.

ABC’s lawyer, Ian Neil, argued that Lattouf was not expelled and simply told that she would not need to work in the last two days of her contract, saying, “We are talking about attacks, two programs.”

Neil also confirmed that cutting the contract was not related to the Latoff penalty, but rather to protect the broadcaster’s reputation.

“Someone is designed from the air to protect ABC, not to punish the employee,” Nil said in the final arguments.
