“It needs a place where the unavoidable growth …”: Why did this Canadian choose India on the West

While many Indians are chasing dreams abroad, Calip Fresyne walked the opposite way. In his early twenties, the Creator of Canadian content and the father mobilized his bags and made Bengal the house. Its causes were not rooted in ambition or strategy – but in the calm and radical pursuit of internal growth. Now, eight years later in India, a video of Fresin contemplates his unconventional movement is going viral.

The video begins with a question that Fresyen used to hear: Why did you leave Canada to India when many Indians are heading in the other direction? His answer is unexpected. “To become more striking,” he says – not through the external struggle, but internal change.

He shares a pivotal moment of his youth: a 40 -day fast in which only water and air consumes. He decreased 18 kilograms, but what he acquired was a deeper lesson. “When you abide, growth can occur – even without procedure,” he says.

Fresyne calls this “negative growth” – the type of transformation that occurs not through planning, but by converting your surroundings. “It is the type of growth that does not require a plan. It only happens when your environment changes,” he explains.

This is what led him to India. He wanted to challenge himself, to be mentally and emotionally in ways he could not organize. He says: “I wanted to be in a place where the growth was inevitable.” India has become – with its complexities and contradictions – a crucible.

His belief in passive growth also is how he looks at paternity. He says to become a father is another experience that forces growth, simply. “My son is still present, as well as my growth.”

Through climatic shocks, cultural transformations, and the daily prediction of Indian life, Fresin found what he was looking for: not comfort, but the transformation.
