Russia restored the bodies of 1200 Ukrainian soldiers to KyivOn the occasion of one of the largest restoration of the remains since the war began more than three years ago.

The return was submitted on Friday after an agreement reached during the peace talks in Istanbul last month.

However, Moscow claimed that this last exchange was unilateral, claiming that Ukraine had failed to restore the bodies of its fallen soldiers.

“Today, Russia has handed over more than 1,200 bodies from the deceased soldiers in the Ukrainian armed forces to Ukraine. One of them has not been handed over to us,” said a source whose name is not revealed to the state -run news agency in Russia.

Russian presidential assistant Vladimir Medinski also claimed that Ukraine suddenly launched the delivery of remains and exchanges of prisoners on June 7, without providing a general interpretation.

Coordination headquarters in Ukraine to treat the war prisoners said in a statement on Friday that forensic experts will now determine the remains they received, adding that the bodies were believed to be the bodies of Ukrainian military personnel.

Earlier this week, Russia returned to 1212 other bodies and received only 27 bodies of its forces in return.

Despite the tensions, both sides in principle agreed to exchange up to 6000 bodies and give priority to the release of the patients of the war and the wounded, as well as those under the age of 25.

Protection of the European Union for Ukrainian refugees

Meanwhile, as the war between Russia and Ukraine continued, the European Union extended the temporary protection plan for Ukrainian refugees by another year, allowing them to stay in the bloc until March 2027.

The European Union’s move, which was announced on Friday, comes amid continuous raids and air strikes throughout Ukraine, which millions have been displaced since the beginning of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

More than 4.3 million Ukrainians are currently registered under this scheme, as Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic host the largest number of refugees.

“While Russia continues to intimidate Ukrainian civilians through random air strikes, the European Union continues to show its solidarity,” said Thomas Simon, the Minister of the Interior of Poland.

“We will continue to provide protection to millions of Ukrainian refugees for another year.”

The fighting continues

Heavy fighting continued through the confrontation line on Friday, as new victims mentioned in both Ukraine and Russia.
