Italy is looking for a new coach yet Luciano Spalletti dismissal.
Spalletti revealed an end to his contract at a press conference on Sunday before the World Cup qualifiers on Monday with Moldova.
The decision came after a horrific start to qualify for Azzurri, which was postponed 3-0 by Norway on Friday, leaving them nine shy points from the leaders of the first group, who played two more games.
Spalletti will take responsibility for the game with Moldova, but the focus on the Italian Football Association (Figc) is to find a successor who can help them avoid humiliation of the third World Cup in a row. Before 2018, Italy has not failed to qualify since the 1958 Championship.
With the likes of Carlo Ancelotti (Brazil), Antonio Conte (Napoli) and Massimiliano Alegre (AC MILAN) are all unavailable, we look at the candidates to take on this challenge, as well as some potential external candidates.

Favorite
Stefano Pioli
The former AC MILAN team and Inter Milan and Fiorentina coach suffer from a contract in the Nassr team in the Saudi Division.
However, with uncertainty in the future of Cristiano Ronaldo in Nasser after he was accused of rehabilitating the Champions League elite, Pioli can surely be seduced by returning home and the potential opportunity to lead his country in the World Cup.
His previous relationship with Captain Gianluigi Donnarum and the main midfielder Sandro Tonali since his time as Milan coach, a Scudetto award -winning coach, can help his case as a candidate.
Claudio Ranieri
Ranieri gave up the theater in Rome to Jian Pierre Gasperini on Friday, where he finished his work as a temporary coach to become a manager and advisor to the club’s ownership. However, it is likely to have an opportunity to expand the training profession that extends to nearly four decades by assuming responsibility for the national team for the first time.
Ranieri’s former international football invasion was a catastrophe, as only four games lasted as a coach in Greece in 2014.

However, the 73-year-old shares are high after his talisman with Rome, who led him to finish fifth in the first division in 2024-25, and lost him in the rehabilitation of the Champions League at a point.
It is well loved by players throughout his career, Ranieri can help supply the emotional elevator Italy clearly.
He has advanced emotional farewell after his last match at home as president of Rome, but it seems that there is a strong opportunity in Ranieri, who could be as azurri leader.
Strangers
Daniele de Rossi
Roma and Italy have been a legend of De Rossi out of training since he left Galluorus last September, but he could make an attractive choice as a player who knows how to win the World Cup with Italy, after he did so in 2006.
De Rossi became the owner and chairman of the first division club Austamari in January, however it is unlikely that these responsibilities will prevent him from jumping the opportunity to lead the national team.
Gennaro Gatoso
Another member of the World Cup winning team 19 years ago, Gattuso has already enjoyed a Bedouin training profession, working in Switzerland, Greece, France, Spain and Croatia, as well as in Italy.
The only silver widow that must show its time in the hidden to this point is the Coppa Italia he won with Napoli in 2020.
Hungdoc left in June, after leading them to the end in third place, in which they lost the Croatian title by just two points.
Like De Rossi, there will be questions about whether Gattuso has the proportions to lead his country, while mood can be considered a source of concern.
Roberto Mancini
The forces in Figc can be forgiven for a feeling of temptation regarding the return of the man who lastly led them to the success of the tournament.
But they would also be wise to remember that Mancini failed to secure the qualification for the 2022 World Cup, as he suffers from a notorious defeat against North Macedonia in the qualifiers, and has not increased his store since his resignation in 2023.
MNCINI had a brief and unsuccessful talisman as President of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with his recent football’s involvement at any level as a consultant in Sampdoria, who fell from the first division in this season. Although Italy may yearn for Glory Mangini, which was delivered in Wembley in 2021, it is likely to be better introduced in search of a new era rather than trying to restore the past.
Roberto de Zerby
Although the Italian coaches who will be at the top of the Figc list cannot be achieved, there is a reason for the belief that De Zerbi can be appreciated away from Marseille.
De Zerby continued his impressive talisman responsible for Brighton and Hof Albion in the Premier League by the leadership of Marseille to second place in the first division in the first league. While they had Paris Saint -Germain, the return of the Champions League represented a successful season for Marcel.

However, the first season was not completely in Provence for De Zerbi. There were reports of the player’s rebellion in April after it was said that de Zerby refused to train after a 3-1 loss against Rims. They were later rejected by De Zerbi and striker Neal Maupay at a press conference.
Marseille lost one of his last seven games after Rims’s defeat, according to what was reported by De Zerby, an approach from Tottenham to replace the Anngstgoglu. This indicates that De Zerby is happy in Stade Velodrome, but the challenge of transforming Italy and qualifying for the World Cup may be more attractive than the task that seems useless to try to boycott the dominance of Paris Saint -Germain in France.
De Zerbi’s appointment appears to be unlikely, but it cannot be excluded.
