Burundi goes to opinion polls on Thursday to elect deputies and local advisers. However, the elections were severely criticized, as many candidates were excluded by the Electoral Commission – including the opposition personality for a long time, Agaton Rasa. Burundi is also affected by the conflict in the adjacent Congo. More than 71,000 Congolese citizens have escaped fighting between the Congolese army and the M23 rebel -backed by Rwanda since January.
