The Chairman of the Electoral Commission said that a review of the electoral registration will not be held before the poll.

Four prominent opposition figures in Ivory Coast have been excluded from the final electoral list, according to the electoral committee, which makes them not qualified to compete in the presidential elections in October in a nation with unforgettable memories of the attempts of civil war and attempts to coup.

“The cancellation of the electoral list by the independent electoral committee (CEI) is a sad example, but it is eloquent on the erosion of Ivory Coast towards the complete absence of democracy,” Tijan Thaham, the leader of the main Democratic Party in Ivory Coast (PDCI) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Two days after the CEI IBRAHIME Kuibiert Coullbaly president announced that no review of the electoral registration before the vote.

Thaham, who was widely seen as the main competitor of President Wattara, was shocked by the voter in April after the court ruled that he was not qualified to run for the presidency because of his double Ivorian nationality. Thaham, who was born on Ivory Coast, received French citizenship in 1987 but abandoned her in March.

Among the main Ivorian candidates who were excluded from the vote are former President Laurent Gibagbo and his close ally Charles Bla Judy, who was charged with crimes against humanity related to civil war.

The former Prime Minister and the leader of the rebel were also prevented. He was sentenced in the absence of life imprisonment to organize a coup.

None of the four will be able to run in the presidential race on October 25 or vote.

Ouattara, who has been in power since 2011, is included in the electoral registry but has not yet been announced if he would seek a fourth state.

In 2015 and 2020, Oouttara won more than 80 percent of the vote.

His lawyer Matthias Chitchburch said in a statement sent to Agence France -Presse News Agency that the opposition leader depriving his “political rights” was “a serious violation of international obligations to Ivory Coast.”

The Secretary-General Jean-Gearvis praised Agence France Presse that the party coast of the African Gibago people (PPA-Ci) complained that the authorities “did not choose to listen to advice and invitations to discuss, for the sake of reason.”

He said: “It is a shameful matter that they chose to make their way,” adding: “We will not let them do so.”

Other opposition figures have announced their plans to run for the presidency in the final electoral list.

It includes former first lady Simon Evitte Gypsbo, who spoke on behalf of an opposition coalition, that the circumstances did not meet “quiet and calm elections.”

During the 2020 presidential elections, the election list was reviewed in June before the polling day in October.

The final electoral registry of this year includes the names of 8.7 million voters, and in a country whose population is migrants and nearly half of the 30 million population is less than 18 years.

The authorities deny any political interference in the electoral process, insisting that they respect the decisions taken by the independent judiciary.
