Swiss ice collapse buried most of the Blatten village

The Swiss village of Blatten was partially destroyed after a large part of the ice was shattered in the valley.

Although the village was evacuated a few days ago due to fears of the disintegration of the ice rivers, one person was reported, and many houses were completely flattened.

“What happened cannot be conceived,” said Mayor Blatin mayor, Matthias Bellwood, but he promised that the village is still a future.

Local authorities asked the disaster relief unit in the Swiss army and members of the Swiss government on their way to the scene.

300 villagers had to leave their homes on May 19 after the geologists in the area warned that the iceberg seemed unstable. Now many of them may not be able to return.

The Swiss government has already promised funding to ensure that the population can survive, if not in the village itself, at least in the region.

However, Raphaël Mayoraz, head of the regional office for natural risks, warned that additional evacuations in areas near Blatten may be necessary.
