Indy 500: Alex Palu beats Marcus Ericsson to win the largest event in Indicar in Indianapolis for the first time

Alex Palau beat Marcus Ericsson to become the first Spanish driver to win Indy 500 after a hard battle in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Palu took the winning step with 14 rolls to go when he bravely covered into the former F1 driver Ericsson to the 1st and held the initiative to the end.

The Spanish, who took control of the Indicar 2025 season with five wins from six races, was an external candidate to join the new Cadillac F1 team in 2026 but revealed that he was “not looking for a change.”

“I can’t believe it! What a wonderful day, what a wonderful race!” Palu said.

“It is amazing to be here and win. There are some moments that I felt well in the race, but I didn’t know whether I could pass Marcus or not achieved.

“The first oval victory and there is no better place to do so.”

After five safety cars in the first half of the race, 94 rolls were operated under the conditions of the green flag.
