Abbott has not yet signed the bill. But Apple, along with Google, works with interest groups to combat legislation. Apple argues in particular that the implementation of the Texas Bill can pose a threat to the user’s privacy.
The draft law will impose that if the minor is using a device, the account of their application store will be linked to their parents, so that the parents are notified of minors applications downloads and ask to agree to it or reject it.
“If it is enact, you will require the application markets to collect personal and sensitive identification information for each Texas who wants to download an application, even if it is an application that simply provides weather updates or sports scores,” Apple spokesman told WSJ.
Those who support the draft law say that parents will allow more control over the relationship between children and smartphones.
At least nine other states are looking at similar legislation. Apple managed to stop a draft law to pass Louisiana last year, although the country is reviewing the draft law now.
