Luka Modric confirmed that he will leave Real Madrid after the club’s World Cup this summer.
Croatia’s midfielder had talks about a short -term renewal, but with no connection to any agreement, he chose to move away now instead of distorting his legacy.
Modric, 39, joined Madrid in August 2012 from Tottenham and was a major player in his recent successes, winning four titles in the Spanish League and Champions League six times.
Emotional message to the model
In a letter to Madrid fans on Instagram, Modric wrote: “It is time. The moment I never wanted to attend, but this football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end. On Saturday, I will play my last match in Santiago Bernabéu.
“I arrived in 2012 with the desire to wear the best team in the world and with ambition to do big things, but I couldn’t imagine what happened next.
“Playing in Real Madrid changed my life as a football player and as a person.
“I feel proud because I was part of one of the most successful ages in the best club in history.
“I would like to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially President Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches, and all the people who helped me during this time.
“Throughout these years, I faced incredible moments, a return that seemed impossible, the finals, celebrations, and magic nights in Bernabeu. We won everything and I was very happy.
“But besides titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Madrid fans. I really don’t know how to explain the special contact I have with you and the extent of support, respect and love that I felt and felt. I will never forget all the applause and all the gestures of the affection that I have shown to me.
“He left with a full heart, full of pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. Despite the club’s World Cup, I no longer wear this shirt in the field, I will always be a Madrid fans.”

The final match of Modric will come in Bernabeu on Saturday when it hosts Madrid Real Sociedad.
Then it will be part of the team that will travel to the United States for the club’s World Cup.
